Helen and Ben’s Autumnal Wedding Cake
By Rachel Davies
When Helen asked me, over an Atul Kochar curry, whether I would make the cake for her and Ben’s wedding, I was so happy to be asked and excited to get going!
They were having their wedding in a beautiful barn in Essex, and she wanted an autumnal theme, with lots of oranges, reds, and browns.
Helen also told me that the table centres would be pumpkins, the bridesmaids were wearing brown, and beyond that she trusted me to do the rest.
As soon as I entered the barn with my finished cake, I couldn’t believe how co-ordinated it all was! They’d even put wedding pictures of their parents and grandparents in beautiful wooden frames to surround the cake – such a lovely idea.
I added on the leaves that I’d been too nervous to stick on before the car journey, and we were good to go. All I had to do was breathe, hope that no one bumped into the cake, and get ready for their wedding.
Later that evening, Helen and Ben insisted that I join them for cake cutting photos. I let them have a few pictures by themselves before diving in!
